Day 1: Los Angeles to Joshua Tree National Park

Your first stop on this road trip is Joshua Tree National Park, located about 140 miles east of Los Angeles. Joshua Tree is famous for its unique rock formations, desert landscapes, and its namesake Joshua trees. The park offers many activities, including hiking, rock climbing, and stargazing. The park has nine campgrounds, and you can reserve a spot at one of them in advance.

Note that many of the campgrounds within the park can only accommodate rigs of 25 feet or less in length. But there are many campgrounds in the Joshua Tree area that can accommodate bigger rigs.

Josh and his wife traveled around the country in an '88 Airstream for 4+ years of full-time RVing. They made an unexpected pitstop in Montana in 2020 and haven't left since. That's because they got hooked on the glamping resort they run by Glacier National Park. Fittingly, they keep up their RVing love by renting out vintage Airstreams and other retro RVs to travelers hitting Montana.
