Step One: Choose Your Location
The first step to planning any RV road trip or getaway is to select your location. Colorado has a plethora of resort towns, so if you don’t already have a favorite, do a little research to find which one best suits your travel and ski style.
Breckenridge, Colorado, is known all over the world as being one of the best ski resorts in the United States. It’s absolutely beautiful, too! Even better, this Colorado mountain town has a year-round RV park close to the slopes.

Step Two: Find Your RV Rental for Colorado
There are two options for finding your RV rental: find an RV near your destination or find an RV near you. If you find an RV near you, you will have to tow it or drive it to your destination. For those who fly in or would prefer to not tote an RV across the country, search for a rental near the resort. Luckily, when it comes to finding an RV rental, Colorado has plenty of options! You’ll find ones that have cold weather in mind and will be warm and cozy when you come back from the slopes.
Types of RVs
Not sure what type of RV is right for you? Here are the main types of RVs:
- Class A RV: This is the largest motorhome class. They can be up to 45 ft. long and are built on a commercial bus chassis. Class A RVs can oftentimes accommodate six or more people comfortably.
- Class B RV: Class Bs are the smallest motorhome class. These are built on a van chassis and usually only accommodate one or two people.
- Class C RV: Class C RVs are the in-between size. They are much larger than a campervan and typically have the amenities of a Class A RV, but are built on a smaller truck chassis.
- Trailer: Trailers are RVs that you have to tow. They range in size from large, 30+ foot rigs to small teardrop campers.
- Fifth-wheel: Fifth-wheels are often more luxurious than the average travel trailer. However, these rigs require a special fifth-wheel hitch.
What RV you decide on comes down to your particular needs and how many people will be traveling with you.

The important thing to keep in mind is that the RV that you choose will be your home for a few days in cold conditions. You want it to be able to adequately protect you against the elements.

With RV delivery, the owner will bring your rig out to the campsite for you and help set it up. Talk about easy!

Step Three: Plan Your Colorado Activities
Colorado has great winter activities like skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and sledding— but there’s so much more to the state! If you love nature, Colorado is home to several national parks: Rocky Mountain National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Cities like Denver serve as a hub for adventure, and lovable small towns cover the state.
