2002 GMC / Blue Bird CV200
Shorty is a 25' (7.5m) long (or rather short) school bus that is converted into a spacious, comfy and very unique RV. It is yellow as it always was from the outside, but the inside is transformed into the perfect hangout for your Rockies trip. The queen bed is surrounded on three sides by windows, so you can take in the scenery and enjoy the evening breeze with the rear door open - or you can close the curtains and cozy in for the night. The dinette provides comfortable seating for 4-5 persons around the table and can be converted into another bed in a couple of minutes. The kitchen has a sink with hot water and a detachable propane cook stove, which can be taken outside if you prefer cooking closer to the campfire. A diesel heater provides warmth and dimmable LED lights can turn the interior from a bright workspace into a lounge. The hot water tank supplies an outside shower, that comes with a detachable shower curtain. A portable "luggable loo" can be used if no washrooms are available nearby.Power is supplied by solar panels and batteries which also get charged when the engine runs, or shore power via a 15Amp extension cord. Several USB charger outlets and two 120V plugs can be used to charge or power your devices.Shorty is big in storage space. Several cabinets can be loaded with your luggage, the kitchen has plenty of drawers and overhead storage for food supplies. The mini-fridge includes a freezer and a cooler under the seat provides additional cold storage.
Best of all is the large roof rack, where you can store the canoe, bicycles or just hang out for the view. An optional bike carrier has room for two mountain bikes plus a dirt bike or smaller motorcycle or three to four bicycles.Shorty is a full size, but half length, school bus, built on a GMC chassis with a body by the Bluebird Bus Company. Its 7.2l Caterpillar Diesel Engine could handle much larger vehicles and will get get you around reliably and with confidence. The 5-speed automatic transmission makes driving it as easy as any other RV. Shorty is not a race car, but steady cruising while taking in the scenery is the preferred method of travel in the Rockies anyways. The drivers seat provides great overview, with windows in all directions, and maneuvering Shorty is much easier than you'd expect. School Buses are the safest vehicles around our roads after all, especially because they provide such good lines of sight and are extremely sturdily built. Up to two co-pilots can sit up front on an original bus seat with hip seat belts.Shorty is not your average RV. It doesn't have a full bathroom, no air conditioning or a micro-wave, but instead of being an apartment on wheels its a sturdy overland vehicle that makes for a perfect basecamp for a trip through the Canadian Rockies. It has all necessary amenities still - and before all, it is made to see the country by providing easily double the windows that other campers have. It will turn heads and makes for a very special traveling experience, in the spirit and long tradition of converted school buses in North America. And you'll be hard pressed to find a more spectacular place to sleep than in the "panorama-bed" when parked next to a mountain river with the snow capped peaks all around you :-) Ce qui est inclusShorty is stocked with:
• Bedding, linens and towels
• Kitchen utensils and cookware
• Plates, bowls, cups, cutlery
• French press
• Maps and Guide books
• Camping Chairs and small camping table
• A Hammock
• Spare fuel can
• Hatchet
• Cleaning supplies and broomRecommandationsDepending on on the time you have available, we can recommend several great trips you can take Shorty on. From a week camping in the wild in the Kootenays to complete tours through all major National parks, all is close by from Golden. Let us know what you have in mind and we can share the best times to hit the major sightseeing spots. We might even let you in on our own favourite spots off the beaten track.Autres points à signalerSince we are dab in the center of the most spectacular mountain landscape that Canada has to offer, we believe it makes sense to keep your travels within a certain radius from our base without missing out at all. We therefore restrict the traveling distance and area that Shorty can be taken to to the Canadian Rocky Mountains, including the East Kootenays, Kananaskis Country, Thompson River Valley and Columbia-Shuswap areas. We can discuss exceptions if necessary, let us know.

Q.Are there any special tricks and tips that would help with operating the RV easily?
R.
While there are a few specifics on how to operate Shorty, nothing should be too unusual. We will go through all items and systems when you pick Shorty up and will do a mandatory test drive where we explain all details. A written set of instructions is available for all standard procedures like filling the water tank or dumping the grey water and we are available by phone to answer your questions.
Q.What flexibility is available for picking up and dropping off the RV?
R.
You can pick up Shorty on the day and time your rental starts. Plan for about two hours so we can go for a drive together and go through some details. You can park your vehicle on our property (at your own risk) and we can offer you to stay for up to two nights at the start and end of your trip at our place. We have a beautiful 11 acre forested property on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains, with a full bathroom, camp fire spot and (coming 2025) a wood fired Sauna for your convenience.
